In 2007 the South Carolina Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans organized and developed an award designed to honor top high school Marine and Naval ROTC cadets across the state who have displayed core values of the Navy and Marine Corps - Honor, Courage and Commitment, as did the ill-fated crew of the Confederate submarine H.L. Hunley off the coast of Charleston on Feb 17th, 1864.  In 2007 Compatriot SSGT Jeff Holliday presented the inaugural award to Cadet Richard Abercrombie at SSGT Holliday's high school alma mater, Battery Creek, Beaufort, SC.  In 2008 the Division extended the scope of the award to additionally include Army and Air Force JROTC Cadets.  Camp 47 sponsors four high schools annually. With the recent addition of Jasper County's Col.Charles Jones Colcock Camp #2100 in Ridgeland, SC, Camp #47 now annually sponsors three high schools in Beaufort County and the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, TX.
